Google says:
Hay fever is an allergic reaction to things in the air like pollen, moulds, even skin flakes. It attacks only the allergens (the people with the allergies to these things), so for people with no allergies, you're lucky indeed! Further research on pollen in Google mentions: Pollens are the cells that carry the male DNA of a seed plant. Unlike humans, however, plants generally attempt to reproduce only one time per year. That's why Hay fever usually attacks in spring time through out the summer. (If I'm allergic to the plants' male DNA, does it mean I am too allergic to males? Lol.. just wondering!)
Effects differ in degree according to the individual, ranging from mild to severe. Even more serious may be the affects of complications of hay fever attacks repeated year after year. Chronic sinusitus - inflammation of the sinus cavities - is one. Some of the symptoms of hay fever include:
- Sneezing
- A runny or stuffy nose
- Itchy ears, nose and throat
- Red, itchy or watery eyes
- Headaches
- Ear problems (bisa tulalit kah??)
Google suggests, just like other allergies, to avoid Hay Fever, the only thing you can do is to reduce your exposure by:
- Stay indoors during the morning and keep windows and doors closed, particularly on windy days.
- Don't mow the lawn, and stay inside when it’s being done.
- Wear sunglasses when outside.
- Plant a low-allergy garden with native plants and avoid expansive lawns.
- Have hard flooring rather than carpets in your home.
- Use dustmite-proof covers for pillows, mattresses and duvets to prevent mites breeding in them.
- Wash bed linen once a week in hot water (over 55ºC) to kill mites; if possible, dry it in sunlight.
- Get rid of soft fluffy toys, or regularly freeze then wash your favourite teddy to kill and remove mites, and keep soft furnishings to a minimum.
- Wear a disposable dust mask when cleaning and use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter if you have to do it yourself.
- Choose blinds and shutters rather than curtains, and install them externally if possible.
- Keep your house well ventilated.
- Don't let garden rubbish accumulate around the home and don’t use compost or wood chips.
- Use mould-resistant paints and anti-mould cleaners around your home.
- Regularly clean air conditioners and humidifiers.
- Keep pets outside, or at least out of your bedroom.
- Have your pet regularly washed and brushed, preferably by someone else. If you have to do it, wear a disposable mask.
Well, have a great weekend everyone. Keep youself out of those nasty plants' male DNA will you ^_-v.
